Canadians love their lakes. It’s where we unwind on a hot summer day, it’s the backdrop of our first camping trip, first kiss, first fishing trip. Lakes and other water bodies hold a special place in the Canadian identity. They are important to all Canadians in some way.
But we rarely have the opportunity to share our love publicly with policy-makers, the people who have the power and responsibility to protect our beloved lakes and water bodies.
We’d like to change that.
We’re asking you to help support Canadians in declaring their love for lakes and other water bodies through the Small Change Fund. By making a donation to the Small Change Fund, your generous gift will enable us to show policy-makers that Canadians care deeply about their lakes.
Where will your donation go?
It will go toward empowering Canadians to declare their love through videos and a national opinion poll. We are encouraging Canadians to submit videos of a which lake or water body they love and why, and, why they think Canada’s water bodies should never be polluted or wasted in the name of industrial development. We are also commissioning a national opinion poll on the value of protecting our lakes and water bodies.
By giving Canadian lakes a voice and face we hope to influence policymakers to do more to protect them. We feel that Canadians are not being adequately consulted on proposals to waste Canada’s lakes with toxic tailings. As a result, there’s little opportunity for the Canadian public to react to Schedule 2 proposals and show government and industry the actual public opinion on using natural water bodies as dumps for metal mines.
We need to fix Canada’s approach now before more lakes are destroyed by industrial waste.
Help us build a groundswell of support behind the Love My Lake Declaration and our important water conservation message – stop wasting our lakes!
